Used magazines are no rubbish. That’s why we collect them – from children’s comics to news and knowledge magazines to gossip – and direct them to where reading material is rather rare: to social and relief organisations in Hamburg.
Why are we doing this? To maximise the lifetime and reach of magazines and to give people access to magazines that they cannot otherwise afford. And to demonstrate that changes in individual behaviour in favour of more sustainability & the common good are possible.
„Hamburg reads on“ (“Hamburg liest weiter”) is an initiative of our non-profit association “BRAINS & GUTS e.V.” and has been awarded the German Reading Award 2020 (Deutscher Lesepreis). Our initiative has taken second place in the category „outstanding community commitment to reading promotion“.
